On the way down the coast to Port Lincoln you have to pass through Coffin Bay and cannot possibly go past Oyster HQ. Freshly shucked oysters and the freshest prawns ever.

Port Lincoln was named by Matthew Flinders after the City of Lincoln in his native Lincolnshire. A couple of months later Nicholas Baudin entered the same port and named it Port Champagny. The all weather port is said to have the largest fishing fleet in the Southern Hemisphere catching many different types of seafood in the rich waters of the Spencer Gulf eg. King George Whiting, Cuttle fish, orange roughy, squid, crabs, abalone, prawns, sharks, tuna, kingfish and more. A visit to the Alex Stenross Maritime Museum was an interesting way to while away a cold rainy afternoon.

Proceeding northwards up the east side of this peninsula we called in to Tumby Bay to see some great silo art, street art and then to Whyalla to have a look at the circular jetty.

This completes our Eyre Peninsula visit – next up – the Clare Valley and some serious wine tasting.
