Esperance is a beautiful town on the edge of the Recherche Archipelago with fine blindingly white quartz sand edged by tumbled rounded boulders and endless uninhabited islands. Esperance is also the closest town to Lucky Bay where kangaroos regularly come to sunbake on its white sand.

West Beach on the other side of town.
We spent a day at Cape Le Grande National Park walking a few trails to deserted beaches. This area is semi-arid coastal lands. We took the shortcut back to Esperance via Cape Le Grande beach to Wylie Bay, a 22 km 4WD drive on the sand. It was only an hour past high tide so although the tide was dropping there were a few ‘challenges’!
