It’s a long haul from Broome to Port Headland so we broke it up with a couple of stops. We were told Barn Hill station was a must do so we made a right hand turn onto another red dirt road heading out to the coast. Three farm gates and 30km later we arrived at one of our favorite farm stays. What’s not to like – shady trees, magnificent views, live music each evening and an Italian chef up at the homestead who made $20 pizzas each evening – so yummy!
We dallied here for a couple of extra days because it was so nice but, as always, the need to keep moving was a greater pull. Next stop a few hundred kms further west was the caravan park called 80 Mile Beach. The wind was roaring in here making it very unpleasant. The tidal range all along this Kimberley coast is huge and here was around 8 metres. We walked about 1 kilometre out on lovely firm sand to the water’s edge just when the tide was turning and then had fun watching it’s progress moving shoreward at about 200mm per minute. We only stayed overnight here because of the wind but I’m sure it would be lovely in better weather.
Next stop – Port Headland
